California's Great America

As a child, I often visited California's Great America in Santa Clara, California with my family, including my parents, brother, sister, aunt, uncle, and two cousins. It was there that I experienced my first looping coaster and lost my first tooth. I cherish the memories of riding The Demon with my cousin.

A brief history of the park: Since its opening in 1976, the park has experienced several changes in ownership. Originally founded by Marriott Hotel, it was later acquired by the City of Santa Clara and Kings Entertainment, followed by Paramount Pictures, and then Cedar Fair. After the merger between Cedar Fair and Six Flags, all properties are now managed by Six Flags Entertainment Corporation, although the land is owned by Prologis. As the park approaches its 50th anniversary, there are plans to close it permanently after the 2027 season, unless the lease is extended. Despite having many excellent rides, the park suffers from low attendance, and the land holds significant value.

This was the first visit for my wife and son. I wanted our son to experience the looping roller coaster that sparked my passion for coasters. Upon entering the park, we admired the iconic double-decker carousel, which remains beautiful and a fantastic ride.

After riding several great coasters it was time for The Demon. The ride is a little rougher than I remember, but still a great ride.

It was a great day, we hope to visit again before it closes for good.
