BABYMETAL
I came across them on YouTube over a decade ago. I'm not sure why the algorithm chose them, but my feed has been different ever since. The first song I encountered was Gimme Chocolate!! It was mind-blowing. I couldn't quite grasp what I was seeing and hearing. It had a profound mental and emotional impact on me... in a positive way. I've been a fan ever since.
BABYMETAL is a Japanese heavy metal band that initiated the "kawaii metal" (kawaii meaning cute) genre, combining heavy metal elements like speed metal and death metal with J-pop melodies and idol dance choreography. The band was formed in 2010 but only gained popularity in 2014. Japan has a vibrant metal and hard rock scene. If you're not familiar, this is a great starting point. However, be warned, once you dive into the Japanese metal and hard rock scene, you may never return.
Recently, my wife and son took me to a concert, and to my surprise, BABYMETAL was the opening act. I was thrilled when they appeared on stage. They were incredible! The costumes, dance moves, vocals, and music were all perfect. The performance was energetic from start to finish. BABYMETAL has been on my bucket list for years, and they exceeded my expectations.
